Kyoto Kurotani, Unryu / Janome Pattern / Peony / KIWAMI
Product Details
We have crafted this Wagasa (Japanese umbrella) using the rare "Kurotani Washi," which was designated as a Kyoto Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property in 1983.
Kyoto "Kurotani Washi" x Kyoto "Wagasa-ya Tsujikura"
This is a traditional craft that has been protected and nurtured through a long history. Kurotani Washi, from the papermaking village of Ayabe in Kyoto, is an exceptionally rare washi paper where each individual sheet is handmade by craftsmen. It is characterized by its strength and durability, and because it can withstand long-term preservation, it is also used for the restoration of cultural assets. Tsujikura's skilled craftsmen have taken the time to carefully craft this rare Kurotani Washi into a Janome(Snake Eye) umbrella. We are proud to deliver this exquisite masterpiece, a collaboration between "Kyoto Kurotani Washi" and "Kyoto Wagasa-ya Tsujikura."
Tsujikura "Kiwami" - Janome(Snake Eye) Pattern
The Janome(Snake Eye) pattern is said to protect against evil and bring good fortune. This Wagasa carries the meaning of an amulet for warding off misfortune, combining both beauty and resilience.
-Kohaku Gasumi (Amber Haze)-
This is a Wagasa in a warm amber color. "Kohaku" (Amber) is a deep, candy-like color that appears to harbor light within. It creates a profound expression that combines both tranquility and warmth.
