Toothpick Dolls

At the Tsujikura workshop, many small pieces of washi paper are created during the process of making traditional Japanese umbrellas.
These scraps are too beautiful to simply discard, so we find ways to reuse them in various forms.

One such creation is the “toothpick doll.”
A toothpick serves as the core, and it is dressed in a kimono folded from washi paper. Each pair is crafted to represent a married couple and is considered a charm for marital harmony.

These small dolls are given to customers who purchase our products, as well as to those who participate in our umbrella-making workshops.
We hope that this tiny charm will bring good fortune to everyone who receives it.
